Lancashire County Council is offering sessions in libraries to help people get online.

Across the county, 20 libraries will be offering the sessions to learn new skills and open up new job opportunities.

They focus on making the most of being online including how to send and receive emails, apply for jobs, finding out about training and writing your own CV.

They take place on selected days between Monday 23 January and Friday 17 February. They offer advice and support to people who want to join the millions of people who use the internet each day.

It's all part of Race Online 2012, a national campaign to make the UK the first nation in the world where everyone can go online. Around 30 million people use the internet every day.

County Councillor David Smith, Race Online 2012 Digital Champion, said: "IT skills, which so many of us take for granted these days, can be a real challenge for some people. Acquiring these skills really can transform your life and can even lead to getting a job."

"Staff from our libraries and adult learning service have already helped more than 2,500 people to get online for the first time. I'd encourage anyone who has never been online before to come along and give it a go. "

A number of our libraries will be running sessions to help beginners with finding jobs, training or benefits using the free resources that are now available on the internet.

Events and sessions have been confirmed at the following libraries:

• Padiham Library, 2 Feb at 10.30am : Job hunting on the internet

• Great Harwood Library, 3 Feb at 10.30am : A job hunting online workshop

There will also be similar events at:

• Burscough (24 Jan, 3pm)

• Rosegrove (26 Jan and 2 Feb, 10am -12 noon)
