This is meant to be The Ribble Valley, an area of 'outstanding
beauty', an area of rolling hills, greenery, and beautiful
countryside!. I am afraid if the housing fiasco continues we will
have nothing left to look at, apart from houses and lots more
cars!.
We moved up from a little village called Standish over twelve
years ago, the reason we moved here was because it was unspoiled
and loved the ribble valley, as we used to own a caravan at
Gisburn.
Standish used to be a lovely village very quaint but had
everything you needed, plus lots of countryside and a pleasure to
live in. Then along came houses, lots of them, so many of them in
fact you dont see any fields at all, the traffic is unbelievable,
If I come to Standish form Clitheroe it takes just as long to get
into the centre as what it does to travel up to the junction 27 on
the motorway. There is a crossroads in standish and thats all there
is, to come in and go out, it is a mess and people have been killed
on this crossroad because of the traffic including trucks trying to
get aroung the corner. Standish has been destroyed by housing and
traffic, believe me I had lived there most of my life, thats why we
decided to move here.
If you have the time or your passing junction 27, go into
Standish and you will see for yourself what Clitheroe will become
if all this housing goes ahead.
Another thing, how come the housing on primrose lane is
virtually come to a standstill, if we need so much housing, I cant
see any progress, but then again, who would want to buy a house
built on stilts over an old pond!.
Hi Corinne, many thanks for taking the time to raise your
concerns and observations. I have passed the above information
onto a colleague at Ribble Valley Council. I'll update this
forum as soon as I hear from them.

New housing in Clitheroe should be welcomed with enthusiasm -
don't have much time for Not in My Back Yard
syndrome. My support for new housing
is conditional on appropriate parallel development considerations
such as schooling, roads, parking, leisure, retail and business
services.
Clitheroe is a desirable place to live but has serious
issues to consider as a rural market town. A market town
with low rateable values, low population, and low wage economy,
doesn't generate the sort of public sector income needed for
injection into public, business and 3rd sector economies.
An increase in population of maybe 7/8,000 should be
sufficient to bring in additional investment to give Clitheroe a
real boost, so it can beging to address specific issues such as
social housing, halting the increase in numbers of older people as
residents, improved support for the voluntary sector, improved
health service, and increased support for the retail and business
sectors, and so on...

Hi Geoff - many thanks for taking the time to give your view on
the proposed planning developments in and around Clitheroe. Just to
note that a petition has been running (see www.feedbackonline.org.uk/petitions)
and this will be on the agenda of the next Full Council meeting on
6th March.
